Dispute Resolution
King & Spalding continues to reinforce its standing among the country's premier litigation firms through a combination of trial success, strategic growth and a deep bench spanning commercial litigation, product liability, international arbitration and white-collar matters. The firm has attracted significant lateral talent in recent years, particularly in Texas, a development that has not escaped market attention. One lawyer who joined the firm describes King & Spalding as "really just killing it in the market," adding that the firm's "superior lawyering and service" and unusually collaborative culture were major draws. Another partner notes that the firm has been deliberate about expanding in areas where client demand and market opportunities intersect. The result is a litigation platform that handled a remarkable number of trials during the past year across product liability, mass tort, commercial, and international disputes.

Dallas remains one of the firm's most formidable litigation centers. Tom Melsheimer continues to command exceptional respect among peers, with one source calling him "simply one of the best trial lawyers in Texas." Another remarks that "Melsheimer and that bunch are good trial lawyers." Fellow Dallas lawyer Rex Mann is separately praised as a "strong patent litigator." Texas is also home to Tracie Renfroe, who sits in the Houston office and whose profile continues to rise. One peer says she enjoys "an excellent reputation here in town," while another describes her as "one of the most amazing women lawyers I've ever met," praising both her legal abilities and commitment to mentoring younger lawyers.

Among the firm's most notable recent successes, national product liability figure Andy Bayman led a string of victories for Boehringer Ingelheim in the ongoing Zantac litigation. King & Spalding secured multiple defense verdicts in 2025 involving claims that the product caused various cancers and later won dismissal of nearly 300 plaintiffs' claims in Delaware. Particularly notable was a November 2025 trial victory in Barbara Lee v. Boehringer Ingelheim in Cook County, Illinois, where a jury returned a unanimous defense verdict in just 46 minutes following a two-week trial. These wins further cement the firm's prominent role in one of the largest mass tort proceedings in the country, where it continues to oversee more than 60,000 state-court cases.

The firm's broader commercial litigation platform also continues to generate significant results. This year, King & Spalding secured summary judgment for NatWest in the long-running LIBOR antitrust litigation, bringing an end to claims alleging manipulation of one of the world's most influential financial benchmarks. The firm also achieved a series of appellate victories for Progressive Insurance in multiple federal circuits, establishing important precedent regarding class certification in insurance valuation disputes. Together, these matters underscore the firm's ability to handle high-stakes commercial, antitrust, and class action litigation across a national stage.

With nationally recognized strengths in product liability, commercial litigation, international arbitration and white-collar matters, King & Spalding remains a fixture among the country's litigation elite. As one lateral succinctly observed: "The litigation chops here are beyond impressive."
