Robert Hayes is the leader of the firm’s Medical Malpractice & Professional Liability practice. He is an experienced trial attorney who specializes in both civil and criminal defense work. Rob has successfully engaged in a broad range of trials and hearings, representing healthcare professionals and institutions throughout the state of Maine in any forum in which they have found themselves. He practices frequently before Maine’s Prelitigation Healthcare Screening Panel, and defends hospitals, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in each of Maine’s sixteen counties. He has successfully handled countless medical malpractice claims from initiation to verdict and/or resolution. Additionally, Rob successfully defends professionals before Maine’s various licensing boards.

Prior to joining Drummond Woodsum, Rob clerked for the Honorable Joseph M. Jabar of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Rob graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Maine in 2009. Thereafter, he attended the University of Maine School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 2012. While in law school, Rob was Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review and was awarded the Edward S. Godfrey Leadership Award for his contributions. He also earned the Pro Bono Publico Award for his volunteer legal advocacy, and worked as a student attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic, representing criminal and civil clients in both state and federal court.
