Elizabeth Rogers Brannen is the Managing Partner of Stris & Maher LLP and chairs the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice. She litigates a wide range of intellectual property and complex business disputes in courts throughout the nation.

As an expert in every stage of patent litigation, Ms. Brannen regularly leads and manages all aspects of the firm’s most significant patent cases. She has achieved victories in many cases through dispositive motions (which she has defended on appeal to the Federal Circuit), and has negotiated countless favorable settlements, including complete walkaways for defense clients.

Ms. Brannen is also an expert in copyright and trademark litigation. She recently served as the firm’s lead substantive expert in two copyright cases before the U.S. Supreme Court: Fourth Estate Public Benefit Corp. v. Wall-Street.com, LLC, 139 S. Ct. 881 (2019) and Unicolors, Inc. v. H&M Hennes & Mauritz, 142 S.Ct. 941 (2022).

Ms. Brannen has also tried several high-stakes business cases to judgment. Following a recent cross-examination of a plaintiff’s damages experts at trial, the presiding arbitrator awarded $0 in damages, rejecting the plaintiff’s $40+ million damages figure.

In addition to being a masterful advocate, Ms. Brannen is a devoted mentor and leader in her support for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal community. She is a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, an organization of approximately 400 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners committed to creating a truly diverse U.S. legal profession. She is a Leader at the Front and has made a public pledge to take specific and meaningful action to support diversity.

After law school, Ms. Brannen clerked for the Honorable Arthur J. Gajarsa on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Before joining Stris & Maher in 2015, she served as the Director of Intellectual Property at Barnes & Noble, as Corporate Counsel in Oracle’s litigation group, and as a patent litigator at a leading global IP firm.

Ms. Brannen received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, with honors, and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude, where she won the National Debating Championship.
