Erin obtained her B.A. with Distinction from the University of Victoria in 2004 where she majored in anthropology and minored in sociology. In 2007, Erin obtained her LL.B. from the University of Alberta. While in law school, Erin volunteered with Student Legal Services gaining experience in both the criminal law and civil law divisions. 


She came to JSS Barristers as an associate after completing her articles in Victoria, British Columbia. While articling, she advocated in the areas of personal injury and medical malpractice litigation. She also gained experience in family law, wills & estates and conveyancing. She participated in several Continuing Legal Education Seminars and was a member of the Young Lawyers of Victoria. She was called to the Bar in British Columbia in May 2008 and October 2008 in Alberta. 


Erin has experience representing a wide range of both individual and corporate clients. In particular, Erin practices in the areas of employment law, professional negligence, regulatory and administrative law. 


Erin has a particular interest in the areas of regulatory and employment law. Erin has appeared numerous times at the Provincial and Superior Court levels in Alberta and British Columbia, including the Court of Appeal of Alberta. In addition, she has participated large scale, multi-party arbitrations, as well as in mediations. Erin has considerable experience managing large scale litigation involving multiple in-house counsel, business groups and external counsel. 


In her employment practice, Erin has provided numerous opinions to former employees with respect to appropriateness of severance packages and has advised numerous employees in respect of issues associated with wrongful dismissal, in particular in respect of the appropriate notice period, entitlements to stock options and benefits and constructive dismissal. 


Erin also reviews employment contracts for employers to ensure that terms are consistent with statutory requirements and common law and has advised employers in respect of appropriate amounts to be paid to employees upon termination, as well as, among other things, issues relating to non-competition agreements; and violations of confidentiality clauses. Erin has provided opinions to employers to assist in responding to claims of wrongful dismissal. 


In her power & regulatory practice, Erin has advised clients in arbitration proceedings and hearings, including Power Purchase Arrangement arbitrations in the Alberta electricity industry and construction disputes. 


In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her husband and son, as well as traveling, cooking, spinning, snowboarding and reading.
