Bogdan Gecić (Getzich) is the founding partner at Gecić Law in Belgrade. His practice focuses on International Trade disputes, Competition/State Aid, European Law & Enlargement and Administrative & Regulatory, representing both sovereigns, private funds and corporate entities. Other areas of expertise include Government Affairs, Corporate/M&A and Constitutional/ ECHR Litigation.

Bogdan has significant experience in EU Law and its application in and trade policy, competition law and state aid. He is one of few practitioners from the Balkans to have successfully represented clients in landmark cases before the European Commission in Brussels and other international institutions and organizations, such as the Energy Community, ECAA, OLAF and CEFTA.

He has represented clients before the EU and national competition authorities across the Western Balkans (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia), Supreme and Constitutional Courts, and counselled multinational clients in cases concerning alleged abuse of dominant market position and other corporate matters and investigations in more than 20 jurisdictions in Europe and the US.

  • The only lawyer based in Serbia since the Yugoslav era, representing the State of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Elektroprivreda BiH, the country’s main electricity supplier, in a procedure before the Energy Community, a landmark case across the Balkans relating to alleged State aid in the construction of Block 7 of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant, a project worth USD 1.1 billion
  • Representing Telekom Srbija, a leading telecoms and multimedia group in the Balkans, throughout an ongoing legal battle in 19 jurisdictions with key rival in a series of unprecedented competition and antitrust telecommunications cases
  • Representing the Western Balkans 6 Chambers (WB6 CIF) in cooperation with Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton, in a number of ground-breaking competition and international trade cases with far-reaching implications on the economies of the Western Balkans, including counsel on EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), foreign subsidies regulation and other international trade matters
  • Successfully represented a client in one of the largest multi-jurisdictional investigations by European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), with focus on the Western Balkans
  • With Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, represented the Government of Serbia and Zelezara Smederevo steel mill in the first anti-dumping proceedings against Serbia before the European Commission concerning imports of certain iron products from Serbia. He is also successfully representing these clients in a series of trade, competition and state aid cases before the European Commission and US courts. The series of cases is of vital importance for the Serbian economy as the steel mill contributes with nearly 1% to the country’s GDP
  • Acting for EPS Distribucija, won the first case in the history of Serbian competition law in which resulted in the annulment of an NCA’s decision in its entirety, where the original ruling included the highest recorded antitrust fine ever imposed in Serbian competition law
  • Representing the national, Bar Association of Serbia, in a number of proceedings, including one before the Constitutional Court and before the Supreme Court of Cassation with regard to ongoing antirust matters
  • Along with the Association for Protection of Constitutionality and Legality (UZUZ), the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM), he submitted a constitutional challenge against the Competition Act in the Republic of Serbia
  • With DLA Piper London and Dechert LLP, successfully supported Air Serbia in a number of investigations before the European Commission concerning Etihad Airways’ investment in the Serbian airline.
