Mr. Dong is a partner at Jingtian & Gongcheng and the co-head of the firm’s dispute resolution practice. He is qualified to practice in China and the United States of America (New York).
Mr. Dong holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Law, as well as a Master of Laws degree from China University of Political Science and Law. Additionally, he holds a Master of Laws (LLM in American Law) degree from Boston University.
Before joining the firm in 2006, Mr. Dong worked for three years with the Foreign–Related Arbitration Division of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) as a case manager.
Mr. Dong has represented clients in hundreds of lawsuits before all levels of PRC courts, including the Supreme People's Court of China. He has also represented clients in arbitration proceedings conducted by CIETAC, Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center, Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, HKIAC, ICC, SIAC, and others. These cases involved various substantive areas such as trade, investment, banking and finance, real estate, construction, energy, product liability, and intellectual property.
In addition, Mr. Dong has acted as a legal advisor or PRC legal expert for litigation or arbitration proceedings conducted in the United States of America, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Cayman Islands.
Mr. Dong is a Council member and Appointments Committee member of HKIAC. He serves on the panels of arbitrators for HKIAC, CIETAC, Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Center, Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, CAA International Arbitration Centre, Zhuhai Court of International Arbitration, etc. He has been appointed as an arbitrator in over 300 domestic and international arbitration cases.
Furthermore, Mr. Dong is a Council member and deputy secretary general of the China Business Law Society, a master student supervisor at China University of Political Science and Law, the vice president of CIETAC Cup Alumni Association, the vice chairman of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights and Interests of the Elderly of the All China Lawyers Association, and an independent director and chairman of the Compensation Committee of UBS SDIC Fund Management Co., Ltd.
Mr. Dong is also a member of the editorial board of CBLS Business Law Review. He has published dozens of legal articles in domestic and overseas publications, such as Collected Thesis of Private International Law, Arbitration and Law, Chinese Arbitration and Judicature, and Arbitration in Beijing. He is the author of the China Chapter of Global Legal Group’s International Comparative Legal Guide: International Arbitration (2009), the China Chapter of Lexology Getting the Deal Through: Arbitration since 2021, and a contributor for the World Bank’s website (Investing Across Borders, 2012).
