Natalie Reid
is a partner in Debevoise’s International Dispute Resolution Group and Co-Chair of the firm’s Caribbean practice. She focuses on international arbitration, public international law, and complex commercial litigation matters. A Jamaican national, she regularly advises and represents multinational corporations, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations in proceedings in U.S. courts and international fora.

Ms. Reid leads and works on some of the firm’s largest international disputes matters, and has quickly earned recognition from notable legal publications and directories as a “Rising Star,” “Future Leader,” and one of the “Top 250 Women in Litigation.” She is part of a team with a distinguished reputation as formidable trial lawyers in international and domestic courts and tribunals at the highest levels.

While most of her high-profile matters are confidential, examples of matters in just the past year include securing a complete victory for a leading telecommunications company in a several-hundred-million-dollar commercial arbitration; representing the Government of Grenada in an investment dispute involving its national electric utility; and representing Tethyan Copper Company in its multi-billion-dollar dispute with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Pakistani province of Balochistan. Highlights of her public international law experience include advising the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as amicus curiae in Boumediene v. Bush and Al Odah v. United States before the U.S. Supreme Court and representing the United Nations in Brzak v. United Nations—the leading case on the UN’s immunities—successfully asserting the UN’s rights under the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.

Ms. Reid is also one of the few private practitioners (and one of the youngest individuals ever) to serve on the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law, widely regarded as one of the leading peer-reviewed international law publications in the world.  She is Co-Chair of the Young Attorneys’ group of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR Y-ADR), and regularly writes and speaks on international arbitration, including guest lectures for the annual Chartered Institute of Arbitrators/Columbia Law School course, Yale Law School, and New York University Law School.

Prior to joining Debevoise, Ms. Reid was an Associate Legal Officer at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where she was co-managing editor of the Harvard International Law Journal. Ms. Reid received her A.B., magna cum laude, in International Relations from Brown University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
