Called to the Bar in 1986, Sherri Walsh is the managing partner of Hill Sokalski Walsh LLP. Her practice covers virtually all areas of civil litigation with an emphasis on human rights and administrative law, securities and insurance litigation, and ethics for elected officials. She is frequently retained to conduct harassment and discrimination investigations for corporations, post-secondary educational institutions and sports organizations and is a member of the Investigation Unit of the newly created Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner. She participates in and conducts mediations and arbitrations and acts as an Adjudicator under the Manitoba Framework Agreement for Treaty Land Entitlement.
In 2018, Sherri was admitted as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
Sherri is the City of Winnipeg’s first Integrity Commissioner, having been appointed to that position by Winnipeg’s City Council on February 22, 2017.
She is a Chair of the Prairie Region Hearing Committee for the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (“CIRO”).
She served as an adjudicator under The Human Rights Code (Manitoba) from 2007 to 2019 and was the first person to perform the role of Chief Adjudicator under the Code.
From 2011 to 2013, she acted as Commission Counsel to The Honourable Ted Hughes when he presided over the Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry which examined the circumstances surrounding the death of an Indigenous child who had received services from the provincial child welfare system.
From 2001 to 2011, she sat as a part-time Chair of the Appeal Commission – Workers Compensation Board.
She taught Introduction to Civil Procedure at the Faculty of Law, University of Manitoba and presents on various topics for organizations including: the Law Society of Manitoba; the Manitoba Bar Association; the Manitoba Council of Administrative Tribunals and the Canadian Council of Administrative Tribunals.
She has received a number of awards for her professional work:
- 2022 – the inaugural University of Manitoba Faculty of Law award for Outstanding Achievement
- 2021 – recipient of the 150 Manitoba Women Trailblazer Award
- 2016 – the inaugural Nellie award – in recognition of her work to promote social justice, human rights and the rights of women and girls, in Manitoba
- 2013 Female Litigator of the year by Benchmark Litigation Canada and recognition as a Litigation Star every year since
- 2000 the inaugural Manitoba Human Rights Commitment Award
- 1999 the Manitoba Bar Association’s Award for Pro Bono work
