Patrick Heinsen, KC is a partner in BLG’s Calgary office, with a practice focused on complex insurance defence and health law matters. He has extensive experience defending professionals in negligence claims, including architects, engineers, project consultants, and surveying professionals, as well as manufacturers, insurers, brokers, and MGAs in product liability and coverage disputes. Patrick regularly acts for insurers on subrogated claims and provides coverage opinions across a range of policies, including CGL, D&O, and EPL. He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and has conducted matters in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Federal Court of Canada.
He has been recognized in the 2026 (and since 2018) edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada (Corporate and Commercial Litigation and Product Liability Law), since 2021 (Insurance Law), since 2022 (Construction Law) and since 2024 (Personal Injury Litigation).
Patrick was called to the Alberta Bar in 2001.
