Pitman Patterson is a partner in BLG’s Toronto office whose practice focuses on administrative law, with an emphasis on planning and development, expropriation and general municipal law. He appears frequently before the Ontario Land Tribunal and regularly acts in proceedings before all levels of Ontario courts, as well as in mediations and arbitrations. Pitman represents a broad range of public‑ and private‑sector clients, including municipalities, school boards, hospitals, developers, pension funds and industry participants, advising on complex development applications, policy approvals and site‑specific disputes. His work includes negotiating and drafting a wide range of development and infrastructure agreements, including subdivision, site plan, cost‑sharing, front‑ending and transit‑related agreements, and advising on transit‑oriented development projects. He also provides expropriation process and litigation services to both expropriating authorities and landowners in major infrastructure and transportation projects, and regularly advises on matters arising under the Municipal Act, 2001 and related legislation governing municipal authority, infrastructure and governance.
Pitman is a member and former President and Director of the Ontario Expropriation Association; a member and former Executive Member of the Ontario Bar Association Municipal Section; member of BILD and Urban Land Institute, Toronto Council; member of the International Right of Way Association.
Pitman was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996.
