Heather Doi joined Nathanson, Schachter & Thompson LLP as an associate in 2020 and quickly assumed a natural position as lead associate. Heather joined NST’s partnership in 2024. Having been recognized previously as a Benchmark Rising Star, this year Heather is now ranked as a Litigation Star.

Prior to joining NST, Heather practiced at another leading litigation firm and clerked for seven justices of the British Columbia Supreme Court including then Chief Justice Hinkson. She is a thoughtful lawyer with a keen work ethic and strong ability to quickly see to the heart of an issue.

Heather maintains a broad litigation practice with a focus on corporate‑commercial litigation including shareholder and partnership disputes, contract disputes, real property development disputes, professional negligence matters, and employment issues. Heather has also developed expertise in the areas of regulatory and administrative law. She appears before all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as before arbitral and administrative tribunals, including the British Columbia Securities Commission, Forest Appeals Commission, and The Law Society of British Columbia’s discipline committee.

Heather's legal skills are matched by her excellent client relationship and management skills. She brings a confident, responsive, and attentive approach to dealing with clients, who trust her to deal with their most difficult problems.

Heather frequently works with and has been mentored by NST’s leading litigators, Irwin Nathanson K.C., Stephen Schachter K.C., James C. MacInnis K.C., Karen L. Carteri, K.C., Mark S. Oulton, K.C., and Julia K. Lockhart.

In 2020, Heather was elected to serve a two‑year term as one of 12 members‑at‑large of the Vancouver Bar Association. She then served on the executive for three years, including as president of the organization in 2023–2024. For several years, Heather’s other contributions to the legal community include acting as referral counsel with Access Pro Bono’s Court of Appeal program and co‑authoring papers and book chapters for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia on substantive and procedural issues arising in civil litigation.
