Dionysios Rossi is a Partner in Vancouver and the Regional Group Manager of BLG’s Specialized Disputes Group.
Dionysios practices primarily in the areas of shipping and transportation law, environmental law, and energy law, as well as in more general commercial litigation and arbitration matters. He has represented clients before the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, all levels of court in British Columbia, before a number of administrative tribunals, and in commercial arbitration proceedings. His shipping and transportation practice includes vessel arrest and sale, cargo arrest, the defence of cargo damage claims, casualty incidents, spill response, regulatory compliance and enforcement (including investigations and prosecutions), and judicial reviews. His environmental law practice includes civil cost-recovery proceedings, regulatory compliance and enforcement (including investigations and prosecutions), as well as judicial reviews and proceedings before the British Columbia Environmental Appeal Board. He has acted as counsel to energy industry clients in administrative proceedings before the National Energy Board (now the Canada Energy Regulator), the British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission, the British Columbia Oil and Gas Appeal Tribunal, the British Columbia Utilities Commission, and the British Columbia Surface Rights Board, as well as in court proceedings.
Dionysios frequently speaks and publishes on a wide variety of legal subjects. He has been interviewed by national media outlets such as Global News Television, and his work has appeared in general interest publications (including the Vancouver Sun and Business in Vancouver), trade publications, and in legal publications (including the Irwin Law Canadian Maritime Law reference work, The Alberta Law Review, The Transportation Lawyer, The Lawyers Weekly, The Verdict, and in various Continuing Legal Education Society of BC works).
He currently serves on the executive of the Environmental Law Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association (British Columbia branch) and is a past Chair of the Maritime Law Subsection (British Columbia branch). He has also served as a Director of the Environmental Managers Association of British Columbia, the Canadian Transportation Lawyers Association, the Plimsoll Club (a local marine industry organization), and the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association.
