Dylan is an accomplished advocate, mediator, and arbitrator with experience assisting individuals and corporations at all levels of court in Alberta, before the Federal Court of Canada, the Alberta Humans Rights Commission Tribunal, and the Information and Privacy Commissioner. Beyond his extensive trial experience, Dylan frequently resolves disputes on behalf of his clients through mediations, arbitrations, and informal negotiation and settlement processes.

Dylan obtained his LL.B. in 2009 and joined Carbert Waite in 2016 after practicing with a major national law firm. Dylan joined the firm as a partner in 2019 and served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee from 2022 to 2024, and as a co-chair of the firm’s employment law group from 2018 to 2023.

As an experienced employment lawyer, Dylan advises employers and employees on a range of workplace and human resources issues, including drafting and negotiating contracts, establishing workplace policies, addressing terminations of employment, and privacy matters. Dylan works with businesses to address the tough legal challenges that arise in today’s workplace, including partnership and shareholder disputes, employee discipline, employee disability, labour relations, union certification drives, employment issues in mergers and acquisitions, pension litigation, and all manner of lawsuits and legal proceedings.  He also advises on methods of reducing employer liability and risk related to employment standards, occupational health and safety, and other statutory compliance issues.  Dylan’s practice also includes conducting and overseeing workplace investigations involving complaints by and against corporations, directors, officers, employees, and contractors in respect to claims of harassment, assault, fraud, theft, and discrimination.

Dylan also advises and represents clients in respect to professional liability and negligence claims and regularly represents lawyers, accountants, and medical professionals. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in general commercial and civil litigation matters including the representation of business people and organizations in commercial and partnership disputes, including fraud and breach of contract claims.  Dylan has also served as an Independent Supervising Solicitor under an Anton Pillar Order, supervising a search and seizure order and reporting to the Court.

He received his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design, his LL.B. from the University of Alberta, and his Certificate in Pension Law from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Dylan was appointed to the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary in 2022; where he teaches Law 561: Employment Law. Since 2013, Dylan has also been a regular guest lecturer at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University on the topics of employment law and human resources. He regularly speaks at conferences and seminars and has provided training on a variety of employment matters, including wrongful dismissals, privacy, disability management, drug and alcohol issues, and employment standards.

Mediation and Arbitration

Dylan is an experienced mediator and adjudicator.

Dylan conducts private mediations in a wide variety of subject areas, but is primarily focused on workplace and employment matters. Over his career, Dylan has acted for both plaintiffs and defendants and has a balanced and practical approach to both the law and effective dispute resolution.

Dylan brings a flexible approach to mediation, meeting parties’ needs in achieving a resolution that addresses their issues in a sensitive, timely, and cost-effective manner.  In addition to his experience as a mediator, he has completed formal mediation training through the ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Institute of Alberta.

Quasi-Judicial Tribunal Experience

Dylan was appointed to the Alberta Human Rights Commission as a Tribunal Member in 2025 where he adjudicates formal hearings on all human rights related matters and also makes decisions in case management hearings, on Requests for Review of Director’s dismissals and conducts mediations of complaints through the Tribunal Dispute Resolution process.

In January 2026, Dylan was appointed to the Employment Insurance Board of Appeal where he hears appeals about eligibility for benefits under Canada’s Employment Insurance program.

Prior to his current appointments, Dylan served as Vice-Chair of the City of Calgary Licence and Community Standards Appeal Board from 2010 to 2022 where he adjudicated matters under City of Calgary Bylaws related to Livery Transport, Business Licenses, Alarm Permits, Massage Licenses, Remedial Orders, and matters under section 545 and 546 of Alberta’s Municipal Government Act.
