In addition to serving as JSS Barristers Firm Chairperson, Kajal maintains a diverse practice, with a focus on class actions and corporate commercial arbitrations. Kajal’s practice primarily involves large and complex file management, organization, and analysis. She has experience advocating claims on behalf of individuals, corporations, and groups of litigants. In her practice she works closely with her clients including individuals, in-house counsel and business groups.

Kajal practices in most areas of civil litigation with a focus on corporate commercial arbitrations, oil and gas litigation, securities litigation, construction disputes, and mass tort litigation, where she acts on behalf of groups of plaintiffs.

Kajal is the co-chair, alongside Gavin Price, of the firm’s class action group with a particular interest and experience in privacy breach and product liability litigation. She is currently involved in a number of JSS Barristers’ ongoing class action claims. In addition to advancing class actions, Kajal has also been involved in defending several class action claims.

In her experience managing large and complex files, Kajal has gained expertise in e‑discovery and document management. She has been involved in complex and large‑scale litigation matters involving the collection, review, and production of millions of documents, both paper and electronically. Kajal has published and presented on the topic of e‑discovery and document management in complex litigation.

Kajal received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Calgary in 2003. In 2007, she obtained her LL.B. from the University of Alberta. Kajal joined JSS Barristers in July 2008 after completing her articles with Alberta Justice, where she advocated in criminal prosecutions, civil litigation, and family law. Her interests focused on civil litigation, leading her to join JSS Barristers. Kajal has been a partner at JSS Barristers since 2017.

 

  • Counsel for the Class in N.B. v Philip Heerema, the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Limited, and Calgary Stampede Foundation — 2024 was highlighted by a significant damages settlement wherein the Stampede Defendants’ insurers committed to paying $9.5 million to address the claims of Class Members regarding historical abuse, assaults and other sexualized conduct by Philip Heerema that occurred at the Young Canadians performing arts school. In 2025, the claims process was completed.

  • Counsel for the Class in Engen v Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. et al — this class action alleges that the Defendants ignored numerous reports regarding the stability and integrity of the panoramic sunroofs in their vehicles. The claim alleges defects in the panoramic sunroofs equipped in a wide variety of makes and models across the Hyundai brand. The matter has been certified.

  • Krishnan v Jamieson Laboratories Inc. et al — Counsel for the Defendants, WN Pharmaceuticals and Natural Factors, both natural health supplements manufacturers, in a class action lawsuit. The claim alleges common law and statutory law breaches arising in connection with consumer protection statutes across the country. The Phase I Common Issues Trial is currently underway having commenced in 2025.
