Dispute resolution

After the demerger of Chooi & Company + Cheang & Ariff, Cheang & Ariff has reestablished itself as an independent law firm. The firm’s dispute resolution team is well versed in a wide spectrum of dispute resolution methods, ranging from commercial litigation to regulatory investigations and judicial inquiries, both on a domestic and international scale. Its renowned IP department is often sought after for its expertise in IP litigation and highly complex patent trademark and copyright litigation cases involving local and international pharmaceutical companies and technology corporations.
Partners Siew Cheang Loh and Cindy Joo Seong Goh are key figures. Loh has appeared as counsel in many complex and high-profile business and corporate disputes. Goh specialises in all aspects of non-contentious IP matters concerning trademark, patent, copyright, registered design, confidential information, enforcement work, licensing and franchise.

In a highly complicated case involving seven causes of action, the firm successfully represented SPC Diatech, a Russian company that owns several patented technologies on diagnostics in the oil and gas industry, in a suit to defend against the plaintiff’s claim for defamation, the tort of inducement for breach of contract, unlawful interference and premature termination of the agreement.

The firm’s key clients include Ali Health, Asmara International, Ernst & Young Consulting, MAC Piping and Star Media Group.

In March 2023, the firm promoted Vendee Chai, Goh Ee Von and Chee Weng (Anson) Kian to partners.
