Jarrod Schaeffer is a partner at Abell Eskew Landau LLP and represents individuals and organizations in high-stakes criminal, regulatory, and civil matters. His practice includes white collar criminal defense, government investigations and enforcement matters, internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation, with a particular focus on matters involving allegations of bribery and corruption, fraud, and cybercrime. A former federal prosecutor, Jarrod is a skilled trial and appellate advocate, an experienced criminal and civil litigator, and a pragmatic advisor for diverse clients.

Prior to joining the firm, Jarrod served for over five years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (“SDNY”), where he investigated and prosecuted a wide array of federal crimes, including bribery, campaign finance crimes, financial fraud, tax crimes, and drug and international wildlife trafficking. He is well-versed in the strategies and tactics employed in government investigations and prosecutions, drawing on substantial experience working with federal, state, local, and international authorities. As a senior member of the Public Corruption Unit, Jarrod handled some of the SDNY’s most sophisticated and sensitive matters, including high-profile investigations and prosecutions of politicians, law enforcement officers, union officials, attorneys, and federal court personnel. Throughout his time at the SDNY, he tried multiple cases to verdict and successfully argued numerous appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Before joining the SDNY, Jarrod was an associate at a prestigious international law firm in New York City and Washington, D.C., where he handled a broad range of commercial litigation and white collar matters at both the trial and appellate level, including derivative and securities litigation, internal investigations, and criminal and civil enforcement matters. He is proud of his ongoing commitment to pro bono work, which has included submissions to the U.S. Supreme Court and the New York Court of Appeals; criminal representations pursuant to the federal Criminal Justice Act; the successful appeal of a state felony conviction; and federal habeas corpus and civil rights litigation. Jarrod was recently named to the Lawdragon 500 X – The Next Generation list of future leaders in the law, and has published articles on constitutional law, federal procedure, and white collar crime.

Jarrod received his J.D., cum laude, from the Boston University School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Boston University Law Review, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Cornell University. He clerked for the Honorable Barbara S. Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Honorable Roslynn R. Mauskopf of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
