Lorelie Masters has won significant decisions, trials, and arbitrations enforcing insurance for clients, including confidential international arbitrations and litigations for clients like New Century Liquidating Trust, Hoechst Celanese/Ticona, and Dow Corning. A sought-after writer, speaker, and leader on coverage issues, Ms. Masters was named as one of 40 Advisers to the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance. Named a “top 10” lawyer in DC, she has served on the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors, as President of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia, and as an officer of the D.C. Bar and D.C. Bar Foundation. She is author of two well-known treatises, Insurance Coverage Litigation and Liability Insurance in International Arbitration: The Bermuda Form, the third edition of which was published in London and the U.S. in early 2022. The Bermuda Form treatise won the British Insurance Law Association’s 2012 Book Prize for outstanding contributions to scholarship in insurance law and has been called the “standard work on the topic” by the English Court of Appeal. Matter Between C and D, [2007] EWCA (Civ) 1282 (Eng.), [1] (Cooke, L.J.).  Among other accomplishments, she helped found the American College of Coverage Counsel and served as its second President. She co-chairs the Federal Practice Task Force of the ABA Section of Litigation and served as a Section Officer and as national Policyholder Chair of the Section’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. She has an active pro bono practice and is a founding board member of the Human Trafficking Legal Center(www.HTLegalCenter.org and Women Lawyers On Guard (www.WomenLawyersOG.org). She ran for Attorney General in DC’s first-ever election for that position.
