Megan F. Raymond is one of the foremost practitioners before the U.S. Patent Trial Appeal Board and is one of two lawyers spearheading the firm’s PTAB practice, which has secured victories for prominent clients like Novo Nordisk (the maker of Ozempic®) and Twitter (now X). Megan has been a pioneer in advocating at the PTAB since its first minutes of operation in 2012 and has represented clients in more than 100 post-grant proceedings to date. In 2024, Megan was named LMG Life Science’s post-grant practitioner of the year.
In addition to her PTAB practice, Megan also tries patent cases in federal district courts and the International Trade Commission and argues appeals before the Federal Circuit. She represents clients in a variety of technical fields, including biotechnology, electronics, consumer products, medical devices, computer software, mobile devices, and cryptography.
Megan currently represents Novo Nordisk before the PTAB in a series of petitions filed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. seeking to invalidate patents related to Novo Nordisk’s blockbuster semaglutide franchise of drugs, including Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and Rybelsus®. Megan also represents 10x Genomics in defending six parallel IPR proceedings involving single-cell sequencing, three of which were denied at institution. Recently, Megan secured a win on behalf of Tristar Products in a patent suit involving expandable and retractable garden hoses, successfully arguing and defending the district court win on appeal at the Federal Circuit. Other current and recent clients of Megan’s include Amgen, Genentech, 10x Genomics, and Nearmap.
Megan speaks regularly at conferences on intellectual property law and DEIA issues. Megan has repeatedly been ranked in Chambers, IAM 1000, and Legal 500. In addition, she was shortlisted this year by the Women in Business Law Awards for its 2024 Rising Star award for Intellectual Property and recognized in World IP Review’s 2023 Most Influential Women in IP. This year, she was also shortlisted for LMG’s Patent Litigator of the Year in the DC Metro Area. Megan is also the author of the latest edition of PLI’s treatise, Post-Grant Proceedings Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
A leader within the PTAB Bar Association and current vice-president, Megan, with the Women’s Committee, spearheaded the Women at the PTAB report, highlighting gender disparities at the venue. She also helped launch the Top 50 Women in the PTAB list. Her work to promote the careers of female and diverse attorneys includes the creation of a mock argument program at the annual conference of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, where young attorneys (many of whom are women and diverse) present mock arguments to federal judges, giving them invaluable experience.
