Robert J.C. Deane, K.C. is a Vancouver‑based partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and the National Leader of the firm’s Arbitration Group. He is recognized nationally and internationally as leading counsel in complex commercial litigation and as a leading counsel and arbitrator in international and domestic commercial arbitration, including investor‑state disputes. Rob regularly acts in high‑stakes disputes across a wide range of industries, including construction and infrastructure, energy, mining, manufacturing, technology, life sciences and pharmaceuticals. His litigation practice spans contractual disputes, arbitration‑related litigation (including appeals, set‑aside and enforcement proceedings), intellectual property and life sciences disputes, consumer class actions, sponsorship and advertising disputes, shareholder and securities matters, privacy and information law, and administrative law. He has appeared before all levels of court across Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and in major arbitration proceedings in North America, Asia and Europe under most major institutional rules.

Rob was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2000 and was appointed King’s Counsel in 2025. He is an elected member of BLG’s Partnership Board and serves as Chair of the firm’s International Committee. Rob is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and is actively involved in the Canadian and international arbitration community, frequently acting as tribunal chair or sole arbitrator in both domestic and international proceedings.
