Ross McGowan is a Vancouver‑based partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP who provides a broad range of compliance, risk management and litigation support, with a particular focus on assisting financial institutions in combating fraud and corruption. His practice includes advising clients on operations, payment systems, policy development and regulatory compliance matters. Ross regularly works with insurers to provide coverage and subrogation advice relating to fraud losses, employee bondability, policy design and the defence of claims. He also advises landlords, property managers and tenants in commercial leasing disputes.
Ross has represented Canadian banks and credit unions at both trial and appellate levels across Canada in national and provincial class action defence matters, including disputes requiring detailed knowledge of the Bills of Exchange Act, Payment Canada’s Automated Clearing Settlement System Rules and Standards, the Bank Act, the Credit Union Incorporation Act, the Financial Institutions Act, and related legislation. He provides legal services through a Law Corporation.
Ross is recognized as leading counsel by Benchmark Litigation Canada and Who’s Who Legal for his expertise in litigation, arbitration, class actions, commercial law, securities, white collar crime, asset recovery, and business crime defence. He received his LLB from the University of Toronto (1987) and was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1988.
