Ryan brings a wealth of experience and a pragmatic approach to complex commercial and administrative/regulatory disputes. He has successfully represented clients in many arbitrations, and at all levels of courts in Alberta in a wide variety of applications, trials, appeals, and judicial reviews. In 2023, Ryan received the Benchmark Litigation Award for Alberta Litigator of the Year - Emerging Talent. He has been a partner with JSS Barristers since 2020.
Ryan acts for large companies in breach of contract, negligence, and insurance disputes, such as public and private energy and transportation companies, and international engineering firms. He also represents lawyers in professional negligence claims, including one of the leading Alberta decisions regarding solicitor-client privilege and inadvertent disclosure.
In administrative and public law matters, Ryan routinely acts for the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta in judicial reviews, and a range of individuals, companies, and public interest groups seeking judicial review of administrative decisions.
