Michael Bokhaut is a partner at Carbert Waite LLP and co‑chair of the firm’s Commercial and Construction Litigation and Condominium Law Groups.

Michael represents owners, general contractors, and subcontractors in a broad range of construction disputes, including builders’ liens, deficiency claims, delay disputes, and issues of contractual interpretation. His practice includes extensive experience representing condominium corporations in complex construction deficiency claims, as well as advising on governance disputes, owner‑developer conflicts, and enforcement matters.

In addition, Michael acts for both insurers and insureds in coverage and liability disputes, including claims involving fire, flood, product liability, and disability insurance.

Michael is deeply committed to community service and mentorship in the legal profession. He regularly volunteers with Pro Bono Law Alberta through the King’s Bench Amicus Program and the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project. He is passionate about mentoring junior lawyers and participates in multiple mentorship initiatives, including programs run by the Law Society of Alberta. Michael is also a board member of Global Lawyers of Canada (Alberta Chapter) and the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council.

  • Regularly advises and represents condominium corporations, developers, and unit owners in disputes involving governance, bylaw enforcement, and developer obligations.

  • Acted for insurers and insureds in contested insurance coverage matters involving property damage, product liability, and disability claims, including the preparation of coverage opinions.
