Benchmark Litigation is launching an inaugural study, Benchmark California, in September 2018. The objective of this study is to offer a more comprehensive and nuanced examination of the California litigation and disputes market, including offering a closer look at the channels that are driving the work in this specific market, as well a deeper dive into uncovering the firms and individuals servicing this work. The methodology will mirror that of all Benchmark products, with firm rankings and accompanying editorial analysis provided for firms and individuals chosen as the leaders in this market. Rankings are decided upon as a result of firm submissions, peer and client review gathered through a series of phone and in-person interviews, and independent study.

Benchmark California will cover the California-based practices of national firms, regional firms, and more local firms, to the best of our ability. The firm rankings will be determined by region, as well as by practice area.

Regional rankings will include:

San Francisco
Los Angeles
Silicon Valley
San Diego
Inland Empire

Practice areas to be covered will include:

Administrative
Antitrust
Bankruptcy
Energy and resources
Entertainment and media
Environmental
General commercial
Labor and employment
Land use and water rights
Real estate
Securities
Trust and estates
White-collar crime

However, our study is not limited to these regions/practice areas, and, as the study is in its infancy, we are open to suggestions from practitioners regarding its development.

This guide will publish separately from the master edition of Benchmark Litigation, and will be offered in print and online.

Managing editor Michael Rafalowich and client manager Jose Zarza will be visiting San Francisco/Silicon Valley between Monday, June 4th and Wednesday, June 6th, and Los Angeles/San Diego on Thursday June 7th and Friday June 8th, for the purposes of meeting with firms for this study. Please contact us if you are interested in scheduling a meeting.

Firms that have participated thus far can review their editorials online under the present "California" section. Firms who have provided California-specific questionnaires after the last Benchmark press date in September 2017 will see their editorials marked as "NEW."
