Chas. Hude launches law firm

Danish patent and trade mark attorney firm Chas. Hude has launched its own law firm, Chas. Hude Legal. The new firm currently has three lawyers and three administrators. Team leader Thorbjørn Swanstrøm told IP Stars that its lawyers are suitably qualified to represent clients before the Danish High Court and Supreme Court.

Eversheds Finland acquires patent firm

Eversheds and its subsidiary Heinonen & Co have acquired Helsinki-based patent firm IPR Partners. The deal adds patent filing and prosecution to Eversheds’ IP services in Finland, meaning the firm now offers patent and trade mark prosecution as well as IP-related legal services under one roof.

Redd's Ribbons goes in-house 

IP lawyer Duncan Ribbons has joined Celixir as General Counsel and Global Head of Transactions. During his time at Redd Solicitors Ribbons was known for handling IP disputes, with a particular interest in the life sciences sector. He was listed as a Patent Star in Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars (2016). Following recent associate promotions the firm is now recruiting for a newly qualified solicitor with up to two years experience (PQE).

Cheng to Osler

Canadian law firm Osler recently appointed May Cheng as partner in its IP department. May joins from law firm Fasken Martineau DuMoulin, where she was also partner and Chair of the firm’s Toronto IP Group. May is renowned in soft IP work, particularly trade marks. She is listed as a Trade Mark Star in Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars (2016).

Roughton joins Venner Shipley

In May, UK patent and trade mark attorney firm Venner Shipley hired James Tumbridge and Paul Harris from Pillsbury to launch its own litigation practice. The firm has now strengthened this practice with the appointment of IP barrister Ashley Roughton as Counsel. Roughton was formerly senior consultant at Nabarro, a firm that is in the process of merging with CMS Cameron McKenna and Olswang.
