Patrick Sands joined K&L Gates as a partner in its Melbourne office. Sands arrived from Herbert Smith Freehills with patent litigation experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Trade mark star will lead Norton Rose Fulbright’s IP practice

Norton Rose Fulbright has appointed Frances Drummond as its global head of IP, effective from July 1 2021. Drummond, who specialises in trade mark protection and disputes, takes over from another trade mark star Tim Kenny.

Soft IP litigator Andrew Terry has joined Harbottle & Lewis as a partner. Terry joined from Eversheds Sutherland, where he was head of IP and media practice.

Herbert Smith Freehills announced IP promotions

The firm promoted litigation specialists Pietro Pouché (Italy) and Emma Iles (Australia) to partner. Italy-based IP lawyers Sara Balice and Spartak Kodra were promoted to Of Counsel and senior associate respectively.

Grünecker proud of climate change action

Grünecker announced that it has reduced its carbon footprint by adopting renewable electricity and paperless working. This was achieved through its partnership with service company TÜV Süd. The firm plans to reduce its emissions further by 2050.

Vanessa Ferguson has joined Von Seidels to lead its anti-counterfeiting practice. Ferguson worked for Kisch IP for over 15 years before setting up her own firm in 2019. She served as president of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law in 2020.

Cuatrecasas appointed partner Joana Mota Agostinho as the co-coordinator of its IP/TMT practice in Portugal. Associates Nuno Lima da Luz, Catarina Castanheira Lopes and Lavínia Pinto Marques join from CTSU Sociedade de Advogados.

HGF opens in France with a new partner

Patent attorney Vivien Verbrugge joined HGF as a partner to lead its new Rennes office. Verbrugge was previously an in-house counsel at the industrial manufacturing company ITW. He is experienced in engineering and electronics.
