McGuireWoods has added to its government, white-collar and commercial practice in Virginia with a new partner hire.
Michael Herring joins the firm from his post as Richmond Commonwealth attorney. He focuses on government investigations, white-collar crime and commercial litigation.
Herring was first elected in 2005 and won re-election three times during his tenure. Managing a 40 strong team, he led high-profile criminal prosecutions and was appointed to head politically sensitive investigations involving alleged conduct of top statewide elected officials.
In addition he was responsible for various criminal justice reforms, including finding alternatives to criminal trials such as diversion programs and deferred prosecutions for first-time nonviolent offenders.
He also collaborated with the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project to exonerate three individuals wrongfully convicted of violent crimes in Richmond decades ago.
