Lauren Dayton advised on a high-profile sovereign-debt litigation involving Venezuela and its state- owned oil company PDVSA’s default on over $1 billion in debt. The team secured $628 million in judgments for their clients Contrarian and Red Tree, defeated PDVSA’s sanctions defense, and won in appeals. Conditional writs of attachment on PDVSA’s U.S. assets were obtained allowing Red Tree to become the stalking horse bidder for PDVH shares. Portuguese funds were also secured, fully backing both clients’ claims and advancing enforcement efforts across jurisdictions.

Justin Hawal represents South Carolina public water utility Greenville Water in a lawsuit against United States Pipe and Foundry Company and its distributors over defective ductile iron pipes installed in GW’s public water system. The case claims that ductile iron pipes produced at US Pipe’s Lynchburg, Virginia facility contained a widespread manufacturing defect that caused them to fall short of key industry standards, resulting in damage to public infrastructure and raising serious concerns about water quality and public health. Hawal also represents dozens of women in an action against Peter Nygard and his companies. This case is considered the largest international sex trafficking lawsuit in US history.
