Dispute resolution

The Central American full-service firm Arias leaves an indisputable footprint in the landscape of the regional legal market. Though the firm consisted merely of its sole practitioner at its inception in 1942, today, the firm has grown to incredible heights and has time and time again proven itself to be among the most potent of contenders throughout the region with offices in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Practice areas include labor, corporate and commercial law, constitutional law, intellectual property, real estate, administrative law, among others. Members of the firm’s legal teams serve as counsel to some of the highest valued competitors in a wide array of major economic sectors.

Eduardo Ángel of the El Salvador branch spearheads the dispute resolution, litigation strategies, and negotiation practice, providing the firm with his crucial knowledge of administrative and judicial proceedings. This year, he was named Benchmark Latin America’s Central America Litigator of the Year at the 2021 awards. He is currently serving as lead counsel to an El Salvadorean subsidiary of Walmart, following an in-store fire that led to a claim of damages by company OD El Salvador, Limitada de Capital Variable. Though a final resolution is still pending, the Chamber of Appeals dismissed the claim in January of this year for a total of approximately $1.8 million in what was a favorable outcome for Walmart. Also crucial to the firm’s success is Fanny Rodriguez, who is based out of the Honduras office and directs the litigation and arbitration practice. She is highly regarded for her vast experience representing numerous financial institutions on credit structuring proceedings.
