With a network of offices throughout the West, Buchalter boasts a bench of litigators across disciplines, but specializing most notably in white-collar crime and investigations, appellate, and commercial. The firm’s Portland office remains its primary seat of power, while it continues to expand its authority in other states, such as California and Washington.
The firm’s landmark office in Portland features commercial and appellate specialist Michael “Sam” Sandmire. He has handled significant matters on behalf of pipeline manufacturers, and also has had noteworthy class-action disputes arising from a wide range of issues, including employment and product liability.
Two of the firm’s stars practice out of the firm’s California outposts. Sanjay Bhandari of the San Diego office serves as co-chair of Buchalter’s white-collar crime and investigations practice. He has served as lead counsel in countless investigations brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice (DoJ), as well as those related to violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, anti-kickback and other health law related issues, and anti-corruption statutes, both nationally and internationally. Joshua Robbins operates out of the Orange County and Los Angeles offices, also serving as co-chair of the white-collar crime and investigations practice. Like Bhandari, Robbins’ practice covers the full spectrum of litigation and investigations, from enforcement proceedings to high-profile internal investigations brought by government entities. Most recently, he obtained a full jury verdict in a $200 million RICO and antitrust lawsuit that alleged racketeering and market monopolization claims. Robbins has also served as counsel to a COVID testing company in a criminal investigation brought by the DoJ, as well as civil lawsuits brought by the Attorney Generals of Washington and Minnesota.
