Based in Santo Domingo, the law firm DMK Abogados’ litigation and dispute resolution department is renowned for its thorough, timely, and highly apt case analysis as well as its consistently effectual litigation strategies. Representing a diverse array of client interests in litigatory matters including but not limited to tourism, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and labor and administrative litigation, the firm expanded its reach in 2020 to include criminal law and criminal litigation, further cementing its status as a legal powerhouse of the region.
In 2020, the firm served as lead-counsel for Corporación Aeroportuaria del Este in its dispute against ABRISA group regarding the group’s intention to construct the Bavaro International Airport (BIA). Due to a number of irregularities and legal concerns that arose during the approval-process for construction of the airport, Corporación Aeroportuaria del Este sought to have any approval regarding the construction of BIA retroactively revoked in what would become the largest dispute between public and private entities in the airport industry. Due to adept litigation on part of DMK Abogados and skilled leadership from partner Nelson Jáquez, all authorizations granted to ABRISA group for the construction of BIA were nullified, and the project was declared harmful to public interest. Jáquez joined the firm over four years ago offering new leadership. During this time serving as director of litigation, the department has seen marked increases in both size and the number of cases to which it provides counsel.
