Bangalore-based Saakshya Law is a corporate litigation outfit specialising in contentious issues involving public law, mining and natural resources and renewable energy. The team has represented clients at domestic and international arbitrations and is well versed with all the legal, procedural and regulatory compliances needed for various arbitral forums and chambers. Its key clients include Ajax Engineering, Bharat Electronics, Canara Bank, Greenko Group, JSW Steel, KCIC Group, Mfar Holdings, MSPL, Paschim Hydro Energy, Vedanta and West Coast Paper Mills.
Leading the disputes team are partners Aditya Narayan and contentious tax specialist Megha Malhotra Narayan.
In a recent highlight in the mining sector, the team acted for the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries on proceedings for the removal of production caps on iron-ore mining in the state of Karnataka. The challenge gives rise to important questions of law relating to the power of the Supreme Court to impose legal restrictions on carrying on industrial operations and raises important environmental law questions including in respect of application of the principles of sustainable development and the precautionary principle. In the event the suits are allowed, it will have systemic effects on the industry as a whole by increasing availability of raw material.
