Cameron Elder is a Partner at Harper Grey LLP and Chair of the firm's Construction & Engineering Law Practice Group.
Cameron's civil litigation practice is diverse, spanning the areas of health law, construction, commercial litigation, and real estate disputes.
In his health law practice, Cameron has over ten years' experience assisting, advising and defending physicians in medical malpractice claims and in matters relating to professional and ethical conduct.
Cameron's construction law practice is focused on defending engineers and architects against error and omissions claims, and advising on risk management, including contracts, insurance, and pre-litigation dispute resolution.
He has defended a multitude of construction defect and delay claims relating to public infrastructure, residential, and commercial developments. He has acted for architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers and geotechnical engineers, among others. He has particular expertise dealing with geotechnical claims arising out of erosion, differential settlement, landslides, and drainage.
Cameron advises owners, general contractors, and consultants on commercial and real estate disputes involving construction defects, delays, CPLs, constructive trust claims, disputes over surveys, builder's liens, easements, nuisance issues, restrictive covenants, purchase and sale disputes, and strata disputes.
On the commercial litigation side he has significant experience dealing with shareholder disputes including oppression remedies, breach of contract claims, enforcement of judgments and equitable tracing and lawyer fee disputes.
He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Real Property Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch). He provided pro bono legal services through the Access Justice Legal Clinic for over five years.
He is a contributing author to the LexisNexis® Harper Grey Insurance Law Netletter™ and the Harper Grey Canadian Insurance Law Blog. Cameron was also a contributing author to the Contemporary Canadian Insurance Law Casebook published by LexisNexis® Canada in 2015.
Cameron regularly presents to industry groups including the Association of Consulting Engineers, British Columbia, the Building Envelope Council, and RIMS, among others.
