Cameron P. Pope is a Partner at Hicks Thomas LLP, where he brings deep appellate expertise to high-stakes matters across energy, healthcare, employee benefits, and complex toxic tort disputes. After beginning his legal career as a judicial clerk, Cameron joined the litigation arm of a major international law firm, where he continued to practice appellate law for more than two decades before assuming his role at Hicks Thomas in 2024.

Cameron’s practice emphasizes appellate litigation in a broad array of legal arenas. He has successfully handled appeals involving medical malpractice, trade secret misappropriation, flood damage claims following Hurricane Harvey, and personal injury disputes.

He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fifth, Ninth, and Tenth circuits, and all federal districts in Texas.

Cameron holds a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center, where he served as Chief Notes and Comments Editor for the Houston Law Review. He earned a Master of Arts in English from the University of Houston in 1998 and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in 1994.

His professional contributions have been widely recognized: he is listed in Best Lawyers in America (2025–2026), has been named a Litigation Star in Texas by Benchmark Litigation (2021–2025) and was recognized as a “Future Star” by the same publication from 2014 to 2020. He is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

  • Successfully represented medical school in appeal of multi-million dollar jury verdict in medical malpractice dispute.

  • Successfully represented software developer in appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit of “death penalty” and other sanctions awarded to developer in trade secret misappropriation dispute involving software used in the oil and gas industry.

  • Counsel for river authority in multiple appeals involving flood damage claims by property owners for actions taken during Hurricane Harvey.

  • Successfully represented oil and gas company in appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in dispute involving personal injuries sustained on offshore rig.

  • Successfully represented oil and gas company in appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit involving more than $650 million in alleged damages in dispute involving area of mutual interest in the Bakken shale
