Mr. Chen focuses his practice on international commercial arbitration, foreign-related arbitration in China and cross-border commercial dispute resolution.  He has significant experience in assisting foreign clients and multinational companies to resolve China-related commercial disputes, as well as in assisting domestic large-scale enterprises to deal with overseas commercial disputes. Mr. Chen is included on the Arbitrator Lists of well-known international arbitral institutions.

  • Represented a large state-owned enterprise to resolve a dispute against a BVI company before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. The amount in dispute totaled RMB 2 billion. The arbitration was governed by Chinese law and the language of arbitration was Chinese. This case was one of the few major international commercial arbitration cases that were independently represented by Chinese lawyers. The arbitration center rendered a favorable ruling and rejected nearly all claims of the opposing party.
  • Represented a Chinese private company to resolve a dispute against a South Korean company before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. The amount in dispute totaled USD 15 million. The governing law is Singaporean Law. The arbitration language is English.
  • Represented a well-known Malaysian company to resolve a dispute over a major real estate project against a domestic company before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center. The amount in dispute totaled RMB 900 million and involved a real estate project located in Beijing. This case was jointly handled by a Chinese law firm and a foreign law firm.
  • Represented a Hong Kong company to resolve a contract dispute against a French cosmetics manufacturer before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center. The amount in dispute totaled RMB 100 million. The case was jointly handled by Han Kun Beijing Office and Hong Kong Office.
  • Represented a multinational company to resolve a dispute involving the control of a Chinese joint-venture company. The entire process took 4 years. The case was one of the most influential cases on joint-venture shareholding disputes and was of typical significance because it was a major and complicated cross-border commercial case that was jointly handled by Chinese lawyers and overseas lawyers. Legal procedures involved in the case included negotiations, CIETAC arbitration, Chinese court litigation, dissolution of the company, a China tax investigation, a U.S. Sec. 337 investigations and U.S. court litigation.
