Erin Pleet is a highly decorated and respected litigator in the Ontario bar with over 40 published cases to her name. She has built a reputation as a leader in the bar and a fearless advocate in the courts. Erin is go-to counsel in complex commercial matters including contract disputes, estates litigation, fraud cases, regulatory/administrative proceedings, and high stakes injunctions. She has also built a reputation as go-to counsel for defamation matters, and has successfully defended against several defamation claims, resulting in full indemnity costs to her clients.
Erin has already been recognized as an elite lawyer in not one but two practice areas (appeals, administrative and public law) by Best Lawyers in Canada. Much of Erin’s practice in 2024 has been focused on acting for the Receiver (PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc.) in one of the most complex and significant receivership proceedings brought under the Securities Act (referred to in this submission as the ‘Bridging Finance’ matter). Erin began working on this matter at Thornton Grout Finnigan.
Recent matter/case highlights:
- Acting as part of the counsel team to the Receiver, PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc., since the spring of 2021. Bridging Finance was an alternative lender with a reported $2 billion net asset value and over 26,000 retail investors. It was put into Receivership after an investigation by the Ontario Securities Commission detected fraud by certain of its executives;
