Greg Schwegmann is a partner at Reid Collins & Tsai. His practice focuses on complex business and insolvency-related litigation in federal and state courts across the country. He regularly represents bankruptcy trustees, creditor committees, foreign liquidators, federal receivers, distressed corporations, and investors, among others, in high-stakes cases involving financial fraud, Ponzi schemes, fraudulent transfers, securities matters, professional/fiduciary liability, and cross-border financial litigation.
Greg has secured hundreds of millions of dollars in judgments and settlements on behalf of his clients. Noteworthy cases and representations include:
- Victories in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of the United States on the scope of the § 546(e) safe harbor in the landmark case Merit Management Group v. FTI Consulting;
- Obtained a $21.5 million settlement and the release of $104 million of insider claims on behalf of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Fresh & Easy, LLC, to resolve breach of fiduciary duty and fraudulent transfer claims against former insiders;
- Secured a confidential settlement for a Bankruptcy Trustee and Trustee of a Private Actions Trust in connection with the claims of over 400 Ponzi scheme victims against a national life insurance company for securities fraud and the negligent employment of the agents;
- Successful representation of the Chapter 7 Trustee of the Agape World estate in fraudulent transfer litigation against six futures commission merchants.
Greg has been recognized in Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyers in America and is a member of the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers, the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and INSOL International.
Greg received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with honors from the College of Liberal Arts and with special distinction in Philosophy.
