Guy Gilain has a specialized practice in construction law with considerable experience in litigation and contractual issues. His clients include public and private companies, general and specialized contractors, and equipment suppliers. He also represents national and multinational companies as well as various construction industry associations. Guy has earned a solid reputation as a seasoned litigator with respect to lengthy litigious construction matters.

Guy provides advice on the full scope of issues regarding construction contracts, whether related to negotiating, drafting, handling claims, expense management, or administra-tive management matters (such as construction permits) for all types of construction projects. He has experience with major civic works (dams, pipelines, etc.), commercial and industrial buildings, residential complexes, and infrastructure projects. In addition, Guy has represented clients in the resolution of serious disputes through mediation or arbitration, and has occasionally acted as an arbitrator and a mediator.

Guy is the head of the Construction Law Group in Miller Thomson’s Québec office.

Guy is the co-author, with David H. Kauffman, of the book The Construction Hypothec, published in 2008. The book is a comprehensive study of the construction lien system and related construction law in Quebec. Guy is also sought after as a lecturer by construc-tion industry organizations, universities, and professional corporations.
