A partner in the Litigation Department, Katherine serves as the chair of the firm’s Artificial Intelligence Group. She previously served as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York and as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. At the DOJ, Katherine was head of criminal and civil operations for the Antitrust Division. Katherine regularly handles sensitive high technology investigations, litigation and advisory work in the areas of antitrust, artificial intelligence, financial services, insurance, employment, contracts, sports and media law, and intellectual property.
Drawing on decades of experience at the intersection of antitrust law and emerging technologies, Katherine's specialized expertise in AI-related competition issues provides critical guidance for organizations navigating the complex regulatory landscape.
Katherine was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2011 as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York, serving just under eight years on the bench and presiding over several thousand criminal and civil cases. She was selected as an MDL judge in major antitrust litigations. Katherine also sat by designation on the Second Circuit in connection with over 30 cases.
