Robert Thackston is Partner in Charge of Lathrop Gage’s Dallas office and a member of the firm’s Toxic and Mass Tort team. Known for his representation of clients in tort cases including nuisance, talc and asbestos, Thackston is a leading attorney in product liability, toxic and mass torts, and commercial and environmental litigation. Splitting his time between developing litigation strategies and trying high-stakes cases, Robert represents prominent individuals and Fortune 500 companies around the world, regularly getting called on to handle their most challenging litigation. His favorable verdict record spans from California to North Carolina and Michigan to Louisiana.
Robert defends manufacturers of products and equipment from a variety of industries, including automotive, industrial, energy, construction and consumer goods. His clients include large manufacturing companies, one of the largest meat-processing companies in the country, an American multinational toy and board game company, a multinational hospitality company, major automotive companies and charitable institutions. His experience includes litigating breach of contract, fraud, theft of intellectual property and RICO claims and numerous cases involving alleged exposures to asbestos, talc, silica, benzene, PCBs, dioxins, metals, agricultural wastes and various other chemicals.
Robert recently received two favorable verdicts in federal court for a client who had lost a half-billion dollars in three similar trials. Robert is especially skilled at translating complex scientific concepts into plain English. He also understands the need to keep jurors entertained and interested. A native of North Carolina, jurors often comment on his candor and commitment to bring them the truth.

Before joining Lathrop Gage, Thackston served as a founding partner and as the executive committee chairman of Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP, which operated offices in Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Robert joined Lathrop Gage along with six colleagues from his former firm in order to help open and establish Lathrop Gage’s first Texas office that opened in Dallas, Jan. 2019.
