Vincent Levy, a former law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court and to then-Chief Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg of the D.C. Circuit, is a trial and appellate lawyer. Vincent acts as lead counsel to sophisticated clients in trial and appellate courts as well as arbitration proceedings, primarily in complex commercial disputes. Clients and peers observe that Vincent “can tackle the toughest legal issues and explain them in clear compelling briefs,” and that he is “just a brilliant attorney.”
Vincent has led trial teams in court and arbitration proceedings, and has argued appeals in multiple federal courts of appeals as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has experience advising clients facing or pursuing litigation under, among others, federal securities laws and regulations, antitrust law, state and federal administrative law, state corporate law, state contract and tort law, public and private international law, the Bankruptcy Code, the Securities Investor Protection Act of 1970, and Section 1782. His clients have included public and private businesses, hedge funds, law firms, public interest organizations, sovereign entities, and individuals—including current and former directors of companies such as Sears and Codere SA.
He represented Valassis Communications, Inc., a MacAndrews & Forbes company, as plaintiff in a jury trial in the Southern District of New York involving a massive antitrust claim against News Corp. and its subsidiaries. The case settled confidentially during jury deliberations. Vincent has served as lead counsel in litigation and arbitration proceedings arising from the termination of billion-dollar energy contracts, and has represented bondholders as plaintiffs with claims against various foreign sovereigns, including creditors in high-profile litigation surrounding Argentina’s debt default, bondholders holding defaulted Congolese debt, and bondholders holding Venezuelan bonds; he also represented noteholders as plaintiffs challenging a high-profile restructuring transaction involving Serta’s debt (the Fifth Circuit heard argument in July 2024, and the case is sub judice). He also recently represented Sealed Air in its defense of securities claims involving a stock drop of more than $500 million; the case settled for a fraction of damages ($12.5 million). Most recently he was co-lead trial counsel for aerospace start-up Zunum Aero Inc., winning a jury verdict in May 2024 finding Boeing liable for $81.3 million for misappropriating substantial trade secrets related to the development of electric and hybrid-electric aircrafts (post-verdict proceedings are ongoing).
Vincent has been counsel of record in high-profile matters in the U.S. Supreme Court, having represented politicians, academics, and organizations in cases raising important issues of constitutional, administrative, and statutory law. He is a member of Holwell Shuster & Goldberg’s Recruiting Committee and chair of the firm’s pro bono practice. As part of his active pro bono practice, he led a team of attorneys who secured the first injunction against President Trump’s revised travel ban.
He has received significant recognition for his work, including by The National Law Journal as an Elite Boutique Trailblazer and the New York Law Journal as a Trailblazer and Rising Star.
