Vincent Levy, a former law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court and to then-Chief Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg of the D.C. Circuit, is a trial and appellate lawyer described by clients and peers as a “brilliant attorney” who “can tackle the toughest legal issues and explain them in clear compelling briefs.” Vince acts as lead counsel to sophisticated clients in trial and appellate courts as well as arbitration proceedings, primarily in complex commercial disputes. In the past year alone, Vince has served as co-lead trial counsel in a federal jury trial that secured a nearly nine-plus-figure verdict, argued (and won unanimously) before the U.S. Supreme Court, and secured as lead appellate counsel a win described by The Wall Street Journal as a “landmark decision” in the federal courts of appeals.
Vince has experience advising clients facing or pursuing litigation under, among others, federal securities laws and regulations, antitrust law, state and federal administrative law, state corporate law, state contract and tort law, public and private international law, the Bankruptcy Code, the Securities Investor Protection Act of 1970, and Section 1782. His clients have included public and private businesses, hedge funds, law firms, public interest organizations, sovereign entities, and individuals—including current and former directors of companies such as Sears and Codere SA.
He has been counsel of record in high-profile matters in the U.S. Supreme Court, having represented politicians, academics, and organizations in cases raising important issues of constitutional, administrative, and statutory law. In February 2025, Vince secured a unanimous victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in Waetzig v. Halliburton Energy Services, Inc., which concerned a circuit split over whether federal courts can reopen voluntarily dismissed lawsuits. On the merits, the Supreme Court unanimously adopted Vince’s position, holding that a voluntary dismissal without prejudice is a “final proceeding” that can be reopened under Rule 60(b). The win earned high praise: legal analyst Adam Feldman ranked Vince’s merits brief #1 among those filed in the first 10 cases decided during the October 2024 term, calling it a “masterclass” and a “tour de force in advocacy.”
Vince served as co-lead trial counsel for aerospace start-up Zunum Aero Inc., winning a jury verdict in May 2024 finding Boeing liable for $81.3 million for misappropriating substantial trade secrets related to the development of electric and hybrid-electric aircrafts. Vince then led a successful appeal to the Ninth Circuit obtaining reinstatement of the verdict in full after the district court set the verdict aside post-trial.
Earlier this year, in an appeal with major implications for corporate finance, Vince secured a recent win for issuers of collateralized loan obligations in the Fifth Circuit. The decision invalidated a so-called “uptier” transaction—a controversial type of debt restructuring that gives select lenders’ repayment priority at the expense of others.
Vince is a member of Holwell Shuster & Goldberg’s Recruiting Committee and chair of the firm’s pro bono practice. As part of his active pro bono practice, he led a team of attorneys who secured the first injunction against President Trump’s revised travel ban.
He has received significant recognition for his work, including by The National Law Journal as an Elite Boutique Trailblazer and the New York Law Journal as a Trailblazer and Rising Star.
