In May 2023, Singapore firm Prolegis formally joined Herbert Smith Freehills to establish a market-leading litigation and arbitration practice. Upon the launch of this new offering, Prolegis brought on board a four-strong team of commercial and insolvency disputes veterans from Morgan Lewis Stamford. At the time of submission, the domestic team had nine fee earners. The Prolegis litigation team fits seamlessly into the holistic offering of the HSF global network, servicing the disputes powerhouse’s biggest regional clients in sectors such as cryptocurrency, technology, energy, construction and infrastructure. The team mainly focuses on Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal-level mandates.
The Prolegis team is led by managing director Daniel Chia, and directors Yanguang Ker and Jonathan Tang. The former two focus on commercial disputes, while Tang is an insolvency specialist. HSF’s head of international arbitration for Southeast Asia, Alastair Henderson guides a team that includes seasoned disputes practitioners Tomas Furlong, Gitta Satryani and Daniel Waldek.
In one highlight, the team defended Tembusu Growth Fund against a claim by investee company founders for conspiracy to defraud.
