Lee & Poh Partnership (LPP Law), established in 2020, is a full-service law firm committed to providing comprehensive and tailored legal solutions to meet the demands of an increasingly complex legal and commercial environment. With extensive expertise in litigation, arbitration, and mediation, the firm offers strategic and pragmatic legal representation across a broad range of practice areas, solidifying its position as a trusted advisor in the legal industry. Soon Wei (Ryan) Chu and Zhong Yan Lau are key partners to note.
In commercial disputes, the firm successfully represented minority shareholders in an oppression suit involving West Borneo Resources, a palm oil company with assets in Indonesia. Led by partners Ryan Chu and Zhong Yan Lau, the team secured a landmark Johor Bahru High Court victory in September 2023, obtaining a buy-out order that protected minority shareholders' interests against unauthorized corporate actions. Currently under appeal, this decision sets important precedents for minority shareholder protection in Malaysian companies with cross-border operations.
Building on the firm's strong dispute resolution capabilities, another significant matter involves representing Damai City in one of Malaysia's largest construction disputes concerning the iconic 8 Conlay project – set to be the world's tallest spiralled twin residential towers. The case is breaking new ground in Malaysian construction law, particularly regarding the interpretation of the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA), addressing novel issues such as the scope of payment claims and the enforceability of conditional payment provisions in construction contracts. Given the project's RM1.8 billion ($378 million) value and prominent location near KLCC, the outcome will have significant implications for Malaysia's construction industry and development landscape.
Damai City, KSK Land and TTDI KL Metropolis are some of the firm’s construction clients.
In 2024, the firm significantly bolstered its team with a series of high-profile hires from Tuang Chu & Co, further strengthening its expertise across key practice areas. The firm welcomed Zhong Yan Lau, Soon Wei (Ryan) Chu, Siaw Ching (Angelina) Kok, and Kai Xiang Aw as partners in the commercial and transactions practice, while Chee Weng Leong, Ken Ming (Dominic) Ng, and Sri Kantha Naveen joined as partners in the construction practice.
