Christy Rayburn routinely plays a key role in the firm’s highest profile, highest stakes technology litigation battles. She has deep experience in patent, copyright, and trade secret litigation at every stage. Many of her clients are known globally, including Amazon, Jacuzzi, Medtronic, and Monster Energy.
As a member of the patent bar and a Stanford-trained mechanical engineer, Ms. Rayburn quickly digests the technology involved in her clients’ matters. She translates that technical understanding into clear and effective oral and written communications to stakeholders, judges, and juries. As co-counsel once noted, “Christy simplified the issues such that eight people in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas readily grasped why infringement was apparent.” Clients and judges alike have praised her ability to marshal the relevant facts and explain a case to them clearly and concisely.
Repeatedly recognized as a “Top IP Lawyer” by the Daily Journal, Ms. Rayburn is a force in the courtroom. She scored a $25 million trial verdict for Acorn Technologies in a patent infringement case against Samsung relating to its semiconductor technology, and as co-lead trial counsel, she secured a complete defense verdict of no infringement and invalidity representing ClearOne against Shure in a design patent case in the District of Delaware. She also successfully argued before the Federal Circuit for the dismissal of a patent-related appeal.
Ms. Rayburn is also excellent at crafting the legal arguments that will convince judges and opponents to dispose of cases before trial. Representing Amazon, she obtained summary judgment of noninfringement in a suit brought by MasterObjects, and settled a patent suit against LightGuide related to its fulfillment centers. She also secured the dismissal of a patent suit brought by DataQuill over Amazon’s fire phones and tablets, and persuaded a judge to dismiss an infringement action filed by CTD networks over Amazon’s Cloud Security System. Most recently, on the eve of trial, Ms. Rayburn obtained a settlement for Medtronic involving medical device technology.
A founding member of the Howard T. Markey Intellectual Property Inn of Court in Orange County, Ms. Rayburn has served the organization as its vice president, secretary, membership chair, programs chair, and member of the board. She is now serving as president for the 2024-2025 year.
In addition to being named among the Daily Journal’s “Top IP Lawyers,” Ms. Rayburn has been selected to the “40 & Under” and “Future Star” lists by Benchmark Litigation, among the “Thriving in Their 40s” by the Los Angeles Business Journal, and among the “Legal Visionaries” by the Los Angeles Times. She has also been named to the Super Lawyers list and recognized as a key lawyer for general disputes by The Legal 500.
