Ismael’s practice focuses on regulatory issues and administrative litigation. Ismael has a unique vision capable of seeing both sides of the coin, derived from more than 25 years of experience working in the public sector, and over a decade in White & Case.
Among the clients that benefit from Ismael’s experience are renowned institutions, such as Telefónica, Televisa, Aeromexico, Kansas City Southern of Mexico, Altán, Eutelsat (“Satmex”), the National Confederation of Potato Producers, and Izzi, as well as various corporations, financial institutions, government entities, executives and directors.
During his time in the public sector, Ismael became a leading specialist in constitutional and administrative law in Mexico, acting first as Director General of Legal Studies of the Presidency, then as Deputy Legal Counsel to the President, and until 2008 as Federal Deputy Attorney General for Tax Matters and Deputy Counsel to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit.
Ismael served for nine years as the presidential delegate before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, managing constitutional controversies, and preparing legislative bills. His involvement in the sector goes beyond, by teaching in important universities in Mexico City, collaborating in specialized media and participating regularly in seminars and conferences related to regulatory and anti-corruption matters.
Ismael leads the Pro Bono practice for White & Case in Mexico. Ismael has done Pro Bono work for more than 50 organizations, among which are Mexicanos Primero, Mexicanos contra la Corrupción, University Museum of Contemporary Art (“MUAC”), MACAY Museum, Terremoto Magazine and Commission for Solidarity and Defense of Human Rights (for the Rarámuri). He is the patron of the Tamayo Museum, a member of the Contemporary Art Board, a member of the SOMA Board and a member of Desarrollador Confiable.
