Dispute resolution
Pomerantz Partner Alex Hood leads the Firm’s case origination department, spearheading new actions from the identification and investigation of violations of federal securities laws to presenting arguments for Lead Plaintiff and Lead Counsel appointments. Alex plays a leading role in moving – and fighting – for Lead Plaintiff position for Pomerantz’s clients in virtually every securities litigation that the Firm files.
Alex and his team monitor financial markets, investigate possible instances of securities fraud, draft complaints, and file motions for appointment of the firm’s clients as Lead Plaintiff. Under Alex’s leadership, the case origination team has transformed into a key driver of the firm’s success, doubling the number of cases in which the Firm’s clients are appointed to serve as Lead Plaintiff.
When facing competing Lead Plaintiff movants with larger financial interests, Alex strategically deconstructs opposing counsel’s arguments to earn victories for Pomerantz and its clients. In litigation against Hebron Technology, Alex successfully questioned whether the competing movant should be entitled to the Basic presumption of reliance based on the timing of his stock purchases. By proffering a detailed timeline, Alex demonstrated that, while the disclosure was published after the competing movant’s purchases on the day in question, the news had already permeated the market before his purchases.
Alex has played a key role in securing Pomerantz’s appointment as Lead Counsel in actions against Meta Platforms, Inc., AT&T, Inc., Adobe, Inc., Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc., Rite Aid Corporation, Yahoo!, Inc., Amazon.com, Inc., Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., Wynn Resorts Limited, and Perrigo Company plc, among others.
Alex also manages the firm’s involvement on behalf of institutional investors in non-U.S. litigations, assisting Pomerantz clients with respect to evaluating and pursuing recovery in foreign jurisdictions, including matters in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, and elsewhere.
Alex earned his J.D. at Boston University School of Law and holds an LL.M. from the University of Oregon School of Law. During law school, he served as a member of the Boston University Review of Banking & Financial Law and participated in the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition. In addition, Alex clerked for the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee and, as a legal extern, worked on the Center for Biological Diversity’s Clean Water Act suit against BP in connection with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
In 2023, Alex was selected as a Rising Star in the National Law Journal’s Elite Trial Lawyers awards competition. This award honors lawyers under 40 who represent the next generation of legal leaders. He has been named a Super Lawyers® Rising Star each year since 2019.
