Karen is among the leading commercial litigators in British Columbia. She has been a partner at Nathanson, Schachter & Thompson LLP since 2016. NST LLP is consistently recognized as a top-tier litigation firm in BC and Canada. Prior to joining NST, Karen was a partner in a national law firm where she was leader of the Vancouver office litigation group.
Karen is ranked by Chambers Canada in General Commercial Litigation in British Columbia and is recognized by Best Lawyers Canada in the field of Corporate Commercial Litigation. In 2022 she received the Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship Award from the Vancouver Bar Association. In 2018, Karen received Benchmark Canada's Emerging Talent award for British Columbia and was ranked as a Litigation Star, a status she has maintained. In 2015, Karen received the Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers in Canada Under 40 Award.
Karen appears regularly as counsel before the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and in private arbitrations and administrative matters. Karen recently became a Fellow at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London, England. She represents clients in a wide range of commercial and business matters.
Karen is active in the community, including as a presenter at CLEs and conferences. She regularly contributes her time sitting on boards or committees of various organizations, most recently sitting on a legal committee of the Board of Vancouver College, and sitting on the boards of Little Flower Academy and PALS (school for children with autism). Among her other community work, she has served on the CBABC Advisory to the Judicial Council of BC Committee and on the board of directors of the Association of Women in Finance.
