Marie-Noël Rochon has been practicing civil and commercial litigation for over ten years, developing leading-edge expertise and an in-depth knowledge of the regulation of the investment and financial services industry. She is actively involved with her clients to find solutions that are in line with the applicable regulatory framework while meeting the clients’ operational imperatives.

In addition to providing advice to registrants on the development and application of their regulatory compliance policies and procedures, Marie-Noël regularly acts on behalf of securities advisers and brokers in connection with matters ranging from disciplinary issues to civil and professional liability. She has appeared before all levels of civil courts in Quebec, and often represents her clients before regulatory tribunals and in the course of administrative inquiries carried out by professional orders or regulatory bodies.

Having a keen interest in governance issues, Marie-Noël has obtained her certification in ethics and compliance (CEC designation). This additional qualification enables her to advise clients on their contractual practices, internal governance and risk management. Marie-Noël is often called upon to advise various boards of directors and to represent directors in cases of oppression remedy or in litigation involving directors’ liability.

Marie-Noël holds a master’s degree from Queen’s University, where she focused her research on corporate governance and securities, particularly the duties of directors regarding the adoption of defensive measures in response to hostile takeover bids.

Marie-Noël is regularly invited as speaker at conferences and has written frequently on topics ranging from securities litigation issues to procedural considerations.
