Nick Groombridge is widely regarded as one of the nation’s leading trial lawyers for high-stakes patent disputes. In a career spanning more than three decades, Nick has been lead counsel in over 150 patent cases in federal district courts, has tried dozens of bench and jury trials, and has argued more than 30 cases in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Nick has litigated patents across a wide range of technical areas, including software, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, wireless networking, consumer electronics, specialty chemicals, automotive parts, financial services, and medical devices.
Nick is currently serving as lead counsel to Novo Nordisk in district court litigation involving generic challenges to the patents protecting Novo’s blockbuster obesity treatment, Wegovy®. He is also serving as lead counsel to Acuitas Therapeutics in various litigation matters involving Comirnaty®, the most widely administered vaccine against Covid-19, and as co-lead counsel to Amgen in a patent case involving allegations of infringement based on Amgen’s osteoporosis treatment, Evenity®. In addition to his work for leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, Nick has represented household names across many industries including Garmin, Google, Microsoft and numerous others.
Beyond the courtroom, Nick is a thought leader in the field. He speaks regularly at conferences on intellectual property law issues and co-teaches Patent Litigation (with Eric Stone) at New York University Law School. In addition to being recognized by IAM Patent 1000 as a Gold-Individual Litigator in New York and a Global Leader, Nick has been recognized by Chambers USA in Band 1 for 16 years for Intellectual Property Patent New York and three years in Band 1 for Intellectual Property Nationwide. He has been recently recognized by Benchmark Litigation (Litigation Star and National Practice Area Star), the Legal 500 (Leading Lawyer and 2023 USA Intellectual Property Patents Litigation and Global Leader), Managing IP (named to 2024 IP Stars list), Lawdragon (Legend and 2024 Leading Litigators in America), WIPR (Global IP Leader), Best Lawyers (recipient of 2024 Lawyer of the Year), LMG Life Sciences (shortlisted for General Patent Litigator of the Year), National Law Journal (Litigation Trailblazer), and Law360 (Life Sciences MVP, IP Litigation MVP).
